Sleeping Beauties

Over the last 3.5 years, we've always contemplated a day when the boys will not share a room. We thought about it when they were infants, and Whit didn't sleep well - waking several times a night for months and months beyond Chap. However, Chap slept through it - so we didn't make the move. The same scenario has popped up several times, but we always just pushed the thought to the back of our minds - hoping either Whit would be a better sleeper - or Chap would continue to sleep through it.

They each need their sleep in different ways, and Chap hasn't been getting the rest he needs at night due to Whit's nightly wakings (sometimes), their chatting at bedtime, and the fact that Whit wakes up way earlier than Chap is even ready to turn over! If Whit were discrete about it - that would be one thing. However, discrete, he is not! Over the monitor every morning - just as the sun comes up... "Haap Birday deeeer Chappy!" or "Parmer in-da Dell, Parmer in-da Dell... Why-oo da derio, Parmer in-da Dell" Then a few moments of silence before the hollaring begins... "CHAP!" "CHAPPY!" "CHAAAAAAAP!" And this continues like a broken record until he gets some sort of response.

Therefore, we have been in trial-transition-mode. We set up the pack-n-play last night for Whit to try sleeping in our playroom. It went beautifully!! All in all, Chap ended up getting his hour and-a-half or so extra sleep that he needs. We talked it up to Whit, and made the move tonight. The playroom is now dubbed.... Whit's room (aka Tractor/John Deere room). Chap's room was re-modeled (somewhat)... with the train table, tools, firetrucks, bulldozers, etc... to go with his Bob the Builder theme. As a part of the move, Maggie's room got a little make-over, too. All of the "pink" things in the playroom had to find a home back in her room. Luckily she has a huge walk-in closet to hold all of the baby paraphernalia and other "girly" things that an almost 6 year old girls enjoy. Her favorite is that her desk is back in her room. She already played "school" tonight, and Corbett was the substitute!

While the move is not final - and a few bits of tweaking are yet to be done (such as hanging Whit's things on the wall, getting things all the way in their place, and hanging doors (right now we have a large quilt hanging over the doorway - perfect aesthetic touch to this new transition!)) But, in the meantime.... we have three sleeping beauties dreaming away in their "new" rooms - separate from each other - resting up to play together tomorrow!
